Jonas Brothers Biography

"Music on Red Bull." Without hesitating, that's how 17-year-old Kevin Jonas describes the hyper-adrenalized sounds he's created with his two brothers, 13-year-old Nicholas and 16-year-old Joseph, on the Jonas Brothers' debut album, It's About Time. And it's no wonder since the boys' influences include an eclectic mix of artists ranging from the Ramones to the Jackson 5 to The Modern Lovers--all purveyors of tight, catchy anthems. One thing is for sure, the Jonas Brothers are all ready to keep the momentum going strong. "We go crazy on stage!" says Kevin. "It's so much fun!"

Music always played a major part in the brothers' lives growing up in Wyckoff, New Jersey. Their parents are both musicians, so gathering around the piano for sing-alongs was an essential part of regular family bonding, yet each brother found his own musical calling in a different way.

The oldest, Kevin, who plays guitar and sings backing vocals, was home sick one day when he found a guitar and a "Teach Yourself Guitar" book lying around the house. "I spent the next three days learning how to play the basic chords," Kevin remembers. "That was about four years ago."

Nicholas, who shares lead vocals with Joseph in the group, began singing as soon as he could talk. "From the time I was two years old, I would wake up in the morning and start singing all the time, every second of the day," he says. Nicholas, whose voice has been compared to that of previous prodigies Stevie Wonder and Taylor Hanson, was "discovered" singing while getting his hair cut in a local barbershop. His poignant voice caught the attention of a woman in the shop who immediately referred him to a professional show business manager.

Joseph's original plan, however, was slightly different than his brothers. He first dreamed of becoming a comedian and wanted to audition for sketch comedy shows. "But I was always attached to music and loved listening to different kinds of music, especially rock," he says.

Meanwhile, Daylight/Columbia Records, after hearing Nicholas' incredible voice, began planning a solo record with him. And then fate intervened…. Nicholas and his brothers began submitting songs that they'd written together with the intention of having them appear on Nicholas' solo album. When the label became aware that Nicholas had musically talented siblings, a group performance was arranged. After a spectacular group audition was held for the label, the direction was clear. "All three of us were signed pretty much on the spot as the Jonas Brothers," Kevin says.

For the Jonas boys, the real fun began as they combined their musical abilities to write and record their debut album together, quickly realizing how lucky they were to have each other for both personal and professional inspiration. "It's awesome to have my brothers on stage and in the studio with me," explains Nicholas. "You have a security that everything is going to be okay, even when you mess up."

As Kevin puts it, "It feels like the most natural thing we could be doing. When we write a song we get in a triangle. I start playing the chords that we've chosen over and over and then we'll keep going around in a circle until we have figured out the lyrics for our song."

They're all particularly proud of their vocal chemistry as well. "Nicholas is the powerhouse vocal," says Joseph. "He's just got this young, soulful voice that catches everyone's ear."

"Joseph just has this really cool, smooth rock voice," Nicholas points out. "He really knows how to get the crowd going. Kevin is the one that holds us all together. Joseph and I are the singers and we take turns on keyboards, and percussion, but Kevin mostly plays the guitar and that's the part of the group that we need--he's the glue that keeps it together."

Joseph sees them all collaborating for years to come. "We're brothers so it's not like if we got upset at each other that we can be like, 'Well I quit.' They're still my brothers. We love to do this and we know we're going to keep doing for a very long time."

Inspiration for the group's songs comes directly from the boys' personal experiences--from the highs and lows of dating to being on the road to having been given the opportunity to follow their dreams at such a young age. "A lot of it is about typical teenage love stuff like 'Oh, what am I going to do if I can't see her today?' It's not stuff that we don't know about," says Nicholas.

"There's been heartbreaks and there's been crushes so we know how it feels and can write about it," explains Kevin, but overall, the songs of the Jonas Brothers celebrate the joy of living and encourage people to feel good. "The album is meant to get people up and have fun and raise their energy," says Joseph.

"We decided to call the album It's About Time," Nicholas reveals, "because so many of our songs seem to deal with different aspects of time." Kevin continues the explanation of the concept, "There's '6 Minutes,' which is about how quickly you can run through the full range of emotions when you feel strongly about someone you just met. There's '7:05,' about etching in your memory the exact time a relationship ended, and, well, the list goes on."

Songs on the album that stand out for the boys include their tune "Time For Me to Fly," a catchy, fast track that is about "following our dream of making music" according to Kevin. "The song is about us working hard, playing music every night and trying to make things happen."

One of the more personal tracks on the record is the first single, "Mandy," which is about a girl that their mother, a sign language teacher, taught to sign so that she could pursue her dream of working with the hearing impaired. Nicholas, Joseph and Kevin each formed a special friendship with Mandy. "We were writing songs one day and decided we wanted to write about something really nice--so we wrote a song about Mandy," recalls Nicholas. "She's the nicest girl you will ever meet. She knows what you're thinking all the time."

"Don't Tell Anyone," one of the more emotional songs on the record, is about liking someone but not being able to admit it. "One Day At A Time" talks about how minutes seem like days after you find yourself on the wrong end of a breakup. "That's probably the darkest song on the album," says Kevin.

For now the brothers are just relishing in the experience of having other people hear their music live and making new fans one city at a time while they are on the road. "We've known for a while how it felt to be on stage, but we never knew how it would feel to have people love music that we've written and which we both play and sing. It's very gratifying when fans come up to us after shows and tell us how much they relate to our songs," says Joseph.

"We all have such passion for what we do and for our band," explains Kevin. Our dreams have really come true and we're just so lucky."

New Jersey siblings Joseph, Kevin, and Nicholas Jonas craft hook-filled power pop anthems in the vein of the Ramones, Hanson, and the Modern Lovers. The young East Coast natives -- as of 2006 the trio topped out at 16, 17, and 13, respectively -- were reared in the city of Wyckoff under the tutelage of musician parents. The group formed initially around the soulful voice of Nicholas, who had wowed enough executives at Daylight/Columbia Records to warrant a solo album, but when the brothers began writing and performing new songs together, it became apparent to both band and label that something special was happening. Their full-length debut, It's About Time, was released in August 2006, followed by the eponymous Jonas Brothers in 2007. James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide

Jonas Brothers - Please Be Mine lyrics

They come and go but they don't know
That you are my beautiful

I try to come closer with you
But they all say we won't make it through

But I'll be there forever
You will see that it's better
Our hopes and our dreams will come true
I will not disappoint you
I'll be right there for you 'til the end
The end of time
Please be mine

I'm in and out of love with you
Trying to find if it's really true
oh no no no no
How can I prove my love
If they all think I'm not good enough

But I'll be there forever
You will see that it's better
Our hopes and our dreams will come true
I will not disappoint you
I will be right there for you 'til the end
The end of time
Please be mine

Can't stop the rain from falling
Can't stop my heart from calling you
It's calling you
Can't stop the rain from falling
Can't stop my heart from calling you
It's calling you
Can't stop the rain from falling
Can't stop my heart from calling you
It's calling you

But I'll be there forever
You will see that it's better
Our hopes and our dreams will come true
I will not disappoint you
I will be right there for you 'til the end
The end of time
Please be mine

Jonas Brothers - 7:05 lyrics

We had a lot of good times when we were together
And I thought we'd last forever, you and I
Eyeing for so long I couldn't wait to get you're phone call
Dreaming 'bout you makes me feel alright
Tonight you called me on the phone
Said you had to stay at home
Is there something I should know?

I was fine till 7:05
Till she walked out the door and right out of my life
If you're gone ill move on
But it only would have taken two seconds to say
Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (woahwoo)

The night after you're phone call me and friends were hanging at the mall
I was not believing what I saw
(Whoa) holding hands with him and sitting closer then six inches
Hoping she's not gunna kiss him now

How can I call you a friend, you stood me up in the end
I know that it's over

I was fine till 7:05
Till she walked out the door and right out of my life
If you're gone I'll move on
But it only would of taken two seconds to say
Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (woahwoo)

Don't keep telling me that you're sorry now
But let me tell you how much this hurts me too
(Yeah ooo)

I was fine till 7:05
Till she walked out the door and right out of my life
If you're gone ill move on
But it only would have taken two seconds to say
Goodbye Goodbye Goodbye (woahwoo)

I was fine till 7:05
Till she walked out the door and right out of my life
If you're gone ill move on
But it only would have taken two seconds to say
Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (goodbye) Goodbye (woahwoo)

It only would of taken to seconds to say
(Good bye goodbye) Good bye (good bye) Good Bye (woo)
Goodbye

Jonas Brothers - Underdog lyrics

[1st Verse]
She's an underdog
Lives next door to me
She's always heard you won't amount to anything
And it kills me to watch the agony beyond her eyes
Tragic the way people pass her by
But now I realize

[Chorus]
That everyone sees her
But nobody knows her
She screams in her pillow
For a better tomorrow
She hates it
But she takes it
Watch out for that girl
One day she may change the world

[2nd Verse]
She's original
Never trying to fit in
She's got a way to always go
Against the grain
Oh yea!
Someday they'll see how beautiful she really is
I know that last will be the first
The tables gonna turn cause...

[Chorus]
That everyone sees her
But nobody knows her
She screams in her pillow
For a better tomorrow
She hates it
But she fakes it
Watch out for that girl
One day she may change the world

[Bridge]
Maybe she'll be in a movie
Maybe she'll be in a song
Better pay her some attention
Before she's gone

[Additional Lyrics]
She's an underdog
Yea
She means the world to me
Yea

[Chorus]
Everyone sees her
But nobody knows her
She screams in her pillow
For a better tomorrow
She hates it
But she makes it
Watch out for that girl
One day she may change the world

[Chorus]
Everyone sees her
But nobody knows her
She screams in her pillow
For a better tomorrow
She hates it
But she makes it
Watch out for that girl
One day she may change the world

Jonas Brothers - I Am What I Am lyrics

I am what I am
I can't help myself
And if you don't like it
Get with somebody else
I'll never change my ways
It's not a phase
This is how it is and this is how it's gonna stay
Because
I am what I am I know what I'm not
I'm not the type of guy
That doesn't know how good he's got it
And I won't back down
Won't come around
Saying that I changed cause
That's not how it's going down

And I know (I know, I know)
Wherever I go (I go, I go)
I know where I stand
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!

I am what I am
What can I say?
I'm gonna be this way
Right up until my dying day
Because that's how it goes head to my toes
And if it doesn't show well I just had to let you know
Because

I am what I am
And nobody else
And if you've got a problem
Better take it somewhere else
Because I can't turn back
I'm right on track
And if you think you know
Well then you better check your facts
Because

I know (I know, I know)
Wherever I go (I go, I go)
I know where I stand
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!

Oh can't you see
I'm just being me
I can't be you
And I don't want to be
Don't try to get
Inside my head
Cause what you see is what you get

I am what I am
I can't help myself
And if you don't like it
Get with somebody else
I'll never change my ways
It's not a phase
This is how it is right up until my dying day

And I know (I know, I know)
Wherever I go (I go, I go)
I know where I stand
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!
I am what I am
Hey! Hey!

Jonas Brothers - You Just Don't Know It lyrics

[1st Verse]
You just don't know it It's getting hard to say hello You just don't know it I'm on the edge of crossing
the line I don't want to blow it, or show it Before you know you're mine You just don't know it

[Chorus]
Oh, you won't see me break Won't make that mistake Oh no I'll just walk away There too much at stake
right now I go on and on Singing this song about you And that's what's wrong with this song

[2nd Verse]
Can you feel it? In the way I look at you Girl, can you hear it? I'm crying out inside I don't want to
see you Be near you You're a million miles too close

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge]
You don't know the way I feel So I'll stay alone

[Repeat Chorus]

Jonas Brothers - Mandy lyrics

[Verse 1]
Mandy used to be that girl
The one that never said a word
But she only sang
S Club 7 and all those boy bands
Now it's been a few years
It looks like things have changed
Now she's mine and I want to say

[Chorus]
Mandy always laughs when I act stupid
I am unaware that I'm a nuisance
With her it's never wasted time
Mandy always knows exactly what I'm
Thinking and she's always on my mind
And now, I'm never gonna let her go
Cause Mandy always knows

[Verse 2]
Mandy always tells the truth
Even when it's hard to do
And she always understands
Even when it don't make sense
Even though she is the blonde
I'm the one that feels so dumb

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge]
When I have a problem
I'm sure that Mandy knows
When I'm feeling lonely
I'm sure that Mandy knows
When everything's crazy
She's always there for me
And I'm sure that she knows
I'm never ever gonna let her go

Jonas Brothers - 6 Minutes lyrics

She's the kinda girl that you see in the movies
Seen her in my dreams and now she's standing next to me
Down by the shore first weekend of the summer
Gotta take a chance and just ask for her number
I wish I had a song on MTV
Cause in crowded room I'd be the only one she sees
She's looking bored and now I'm running out of time
I've only got six minutes if I'm gonna make her mine

One minute and the earth begins to shake
two minutes and my hearts begins to break
Another minute and she makes me feel brand new
That's just three minutes with you
Four minutes and she's everything I see
Five minutes and she's that were I wanna be
Another 6minutes everything feels so new
That's just six minutes with you
Six minutes

She's looking at her watch while the dj is spinning
This could be the end or itìs just the beginning
She's the kinda girl that I wanna know better
Reaching for her keys so I guess it's now or never
I wish that I was on the radio
I'd sing her favorite song she'd be front row at every show
This parties lame and now I'm running out of time
I've only got six minutes if I'm gonna make her mine

One minute and the earth begins to shake
Two minutes and my hearts begins to break
Another minute and she makes me feel brand new
That's just three minutes with you
Four minutes and she's everything I see
Five minutes and that were I wanna be
Another minutes everything feels so new
I need six minutes with you
Six minutes

Sometimes I feel like the catcher in the rye
Sometimes I wish that I could catch her eye
Sometimes I wish that I could be that guy (that guy, that guy, that guy)

Yeah...time is passing by
I'm losing my mind
I need
1...2...3...4...5...6 minutes with you

One minute and the earth begins to shake
Two minutes and my hearts begins to break
Another minute and she makes me feel brand new
That's just three minutes with you
Four minutes and she's everything I see
Five minutes and that were I wanna be
Another minute everything feels so new
I need six minutes with you
Six minutes

Jonas Brothers - One Day At A Time lyrics

Wednesday I came home from school
Did my homework in my room
then I watched some TV
I still miss you
Thursday morning went online
Got to school at half past nine
Wound up in detention
I still miss you

Everything I do (oh)
brings me back to you

And I die
One day at a time
'Cause I just cant seem to get you off my mind
No matter how I try
try to kill the time
well I think that im just going crazy
one day at a time

Friday I got out of bed
Tried to smile frowned instead
Burnt some toast for breakfast
I still miss you
Saturday I turned 16
Never dreamt you'd act so mean
You didn't even call me
But I still miss you

And When I turn 94
I think ill miss u even more

And I die
One day at a time
'Cause I just can't seem to get you off my mind
No matter how I try
try to kill the time
well I think that im just going crazy
one day at a time

I miss you more than I did a min ago
I Climb a mountain just to here your echo (hoo, hoo)
All I wanted was you
Tell me please do u think of me now and then
Cause if I never see you again
I still miss you

And I die
One day at a time
'Cause I just can't seem to get you off my mind
No matter how I try
try to kill the time
well I think that im just going craaazy
one day at a time

(Oooo) one day at a time
Well I think that im just going crazy one day at a time
Oo I think im going crazy ooooooo
One day at a time

Jonas Brothers - Time For Me To Fly lyrics

[Verse 1]
I've been wasting my time
I've been losing my mind
I've been running races
Still don't know what I've been chasing
But my eyes still can see
Bluer skies that wait for me
And I'm on my way

[Chorus]
Time for me to fly
Time for me to soar
Time for me to open up my heart and knock on heavens door
Time for me to live
It's time for me to sing
Time for me to lay down all my worries and I'll spread my wings
Time for me to fly

[Verse 2]
You can be a heavy ride
When the clouds are in your eyes
But I feel a calling
I will rise, I won't be falling
And I'll escape the gravity
And I'll reach my destiny
And I'll fly away

[Repeat Chorus]

[Bridge]
The gates of heaven will open wide
I will be
I will rise
There won't be compromise
As I take to the open skies

I will fly away
I will fly away
I will fly away

Jonas Brothers - What I Go To School For lyrics

Her voice is echoed in my mind I count the days till she is mine Can't tell my friends 'cause they will
laugh I love a girl from senior class

I daydream through freshman math While she fills our her college apps I'll show her a world where
we belong But she'll have to drive us to the prom

[Chorus]
That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore You can call me crazy She is so amazing
That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore Girlfriends I've had plenty But she's the
one that I need That's what I go to school for That's what I go to school for

Her boyfriend's just turning nineteen But that doesn't bother me He's back at college out of town I find a reason to go round

I climb a tree outside her home To make sure she is alone She looks up and sees me there Still I can't
help but stop and stare

[Chorus]
That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore You can call me crazy She is so amazing
That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore Girlfriends I've had plenty But she's the
one that I need That's what I go to school for
That's what I, that's what I, that's what I go to school for

[Bridge]
Everyone that you see all day knows you're looking at me in a different way I guess that's why my marks
are getting so high I can see those tell tale signs telling me that I was on your mind I could see that
you want it more when you told me that I'm what you go to school for I'm what you go to school for

She's made her choice and I'm the one At least 'til graduation comes We drive past school to wave
goodbye My friends they can't believe their eyes

That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore You can call me crazy I know that she loves
me That's what I go to school for Even though it is a real bore Girlfriends I've had plenty But she's the
one that I need That's what I go to school for That's what I go to school for

Colbie Caillat - Paint It Golden lyrics

(feat. Jason Reeves)

Run away from money
Quit your job and climb a tree
One with hearts instead of leaves
Build a sandcastle big enough for us to sleep
Paint it golden with the sunrise

Chorus:
Cause we are
Like a wingless bird
Crashing down
To the helpless earth
And if somethin's gonna break it
See it all around you
Feel it in your body
You'll be hiding in the shadows
Where love is still alive
'Til all of it is burning

Through a field we're walkin
Empty as the open sky
We escape from all the troubles
Found a waterfall and
Took a dive to cool our skin
Finally we found this feelin'

Run away from money
Quit your job and climb a tree
One with hearts instead of leaves

Colbie Caillat - Older lyrics

Waited all my life for this day to come
I feel like letting go
Life goes on
Wasting no more time
So much to be done
Everything works out
So they say
Over my shoulder
It's tough getting older
Yeah, yeah

Seems like nothing is black and white anymore
Shades of gray and I feel a weight over my shoulder
It's tough getting older
I always thought that I knew where I'd want to go
Now I'm here and I find that I'm still getting colder
It's kinda tough getting older

Here before my eyes
Many roads ahead
Time for me to choose one way now
If I take a chance
What lies down the road
Feeling so confused
Turned around
On and on
On and on
Yeah, yeah'

Seems like nothing is black and white anymore
Shades of gray and I feel a weight over my shoulder
It's tough getting older
I always thought that I knew where I'd want to go
Now I'm here and I find that I'm still getting colder
It's kinda tough getting older

Waited all my life for this day to come
I feel like letting go
Life goes on
Over my shoulder
It's tough getting older
Yeah, yeah'

Seems like nothing is black and white anymore
Shades of gray and I feel a weight over my shoulder
It's tough getting older
I always thought that I knew where I'd want to go
Now I'm here and I find that I'm still getting colder
It's kinda tough getting older

Seems like nothing is black and white anymore
Shades of gray and I feel a weight over my shoulder
It's tough getting older

Colbie Caillat - Mistletoe lyrics

Great
Fake plastic Mistletoe
Wrap me in a great big bow
And tear me apart

It's Christmas time
So open up the flood gates
Tell me that you'll be late
And rip me apart

Cause you say that, you say that things will be alright
But I've heard that, I've heard that so many times and I know that

It's not Christmas if the snow don't fall
And I'm still standing here three feet small
Lose our troubles because after all
It's Christmas time

It's Christmas time...

Cold
Icing on the walkways
Slip in to the games we play
We're falling apart

A great big house
That's made out of ginger bread
Crumbles to the ground
We're breaking apart

But you said that, you said that things would be alright
But I've heard that, I've heard that so many times and I know that

It's not Christmas if the snow don't fall
And I'm still standing here three feet small
Lose our troubles because after all
It's Christmas time

And I've been waiting for you to come
And it's hard cause I feel so alone
And I just want you to come home

Waiting for you to come
And it's hard cause I feel so alone
And I just want you to come home

It's not Christmas if the snow don't fall
And I'm still standing here three feet small
Lose our troubles because after all
It's Christmas time

It's not Christmas if the snow don't fall
You're not here to keep me safe and warm
Lose our troubles because after all
It's Christmas time

It's Christmas time again
And all your friends, all your friends
Are smiling
It's Christmas time

Colbie Caillat - Droplets lyrics

(feat. Jason Reeves)

I'm leaving you
I'm not sure if that’s what I should do
It hurts so bad
I'm wanting you but cant go back
Trying to find, to find
That all elusive piece of mind
Stuck here somehow
Shrouded beneath my fear
And now I don’t need it

Cuz I'm walkin down this road alone and figured all I'm thinking bout is you, is you my love
And my head is in a cloud of rain and the world it seems so far away and I'm just waiting for
The droplets, droplets

You left a mark
I wear it proudly on my chest
Above my heart Above my heart
To Remind me that I feel the best
When I'm with you When I'm with you
To me everything is effortless
You know its true
My eyes are painted with regret and I don’t need it

Cuz I'm walkin down this road alone and figured all I'm thinking bout is you, is you my love
And my head is in a cloud of rain and the world it seems so far away and I'm just waiting to fall and sink into your tears

You are like the raindrops, the raindrops falling down on me

You left a mark you left a mark
She left a mark he left
She left he left
And I don’t I don’t
Need it. Need it

Colbie Caillat - Dreams Collide lyrics

I am stuck here in a moment
And I'm trying to pretend
So I'll play this feeling over and over again.

I know all this memory
Maybe I should awake instead
But I'm on my way to go back inside my head.

I close my eyes
And try to hide
But I wake when these dreams collide.

So I'll put this all on repeat
And I'll make up what comes next.
Now I lay here, daydreaming on your chest.

Well I'm stalling to open my eyes
Cause I know it's time for me to leave this bed
But I've decided to fall back
Inside my head.

I close my eyes
And try to hide
But I wake when these dreams collide.

But it all breaks down if I
Keep on wasting all my time.
All alone, in my head
Wish I'd never thought about it in the end.

I close my eyes
And try to hide
But I wake when these dreams collide

Colbie Caillat - Capri lyrics

She’s got a baby inside
And holds her belly tight
All through the night
Just so she knows
She’s sleeping so
Safely to keep
Her growing
And oh when she'll open her eyes
There'll be no surprise
That she'll grow to be
So beautifully
Just like her mother
That’s carrying
Oh Capri
She’s beauty
Baby inside she’s loving
Oh Capri
She’s beauty
There is and angel growin’ peacefully
Oh Capri
Sweet baby
And things will be hard at times
But I've learned to try
Just listening
Patiently, oh Capri
Sweet baby
Oh Capri
She’s beauty
Baby inside she’s loving
Oh Capri
Your beauty
Just like your mother
That’s carrying...Oh Capri

Colbie Caillat - Tied Down lyrics

Ohhh I, Don't know what to say
And I, have told you lately
That I'm tired of talking about the same old reasons we change
Just take it easy don't worry about these mistakes

Because I'm keeping it cool, now thinking about you, sticking around and if we should pay
Tied down, looking around and I know what I want so don't hold me down
Oh I, I don't play games
And I, I have been learning

To just to let it all go and quiet when I feel like speaking
My mind done whatever it is I need to make clear and just say

That I'm keeping it cool, now thinking about you, sticking around and if we should pay
Tied down, I'm looking around and I know what I want so don't hold me down...
Down....
Down....
Don't you hold me down

Because I'm keeping it cool, now thinking about you, sticking around and if we should pay
Tied down, I'm looking around and I know what I want so don't hold me down

Oh I, I can't take it
So please please please won't you listen
To the troubles all around me, I'm caught up and I'm barely breathin
But I'm finding that holding on is harder than never leaving

Colbie Caillat - Magic lyrics

Colbie Caillat - Tailor Made lyrics

Twenty-five,
All of these mixed emotions,
Tangled up in pure confusion,
It’s hard to let go of the past, but it seems,
Easier as time is moving,
Well you said he makes you laugh,
And he makes you happy,
He sees you smiling back,
It is everlasting,
And so he’s tailor made for you,
With stunning golden hues,
And one sweet tone to soothe,
Your persistent beating heart it’s just a start,
And I, have seen you everyday,
You’ve never been like this before,
He’s tailor made, tailor, tailor made,
So let go all of these mixed emotions,
Forget all your hesitations,
Together entwined inside this feeling,
Feet off the ground, head hits ceiling,
Then he whispered in your ear,
He’s absolutely falling,
The words he said are clear,
So don’t insist on stalling
Because he’s tailor made for you,
With stunning golden hues,
And one sweet tone to soothe,
Your persistent beating heart it’s just a start,
And I, have seen you everyday,
You’ve never been like this before,
He’s tailor made,
Oh sister, don’t be troubled,
Oh sister, please be calm,
Cause this isn’t, what you’re used to, at all,
He’s tailor made for you,
With stunning golden hues,
And one sweet tone to soothe,
Your persistent beating heart it’s just a start,
And I, have seen you everyday,
You’ve never been like this before,
He’s tailor made, tailor, tailor made

Colbie Caillat - Realize lyrics

V1: Take time to realize,
That your warmth is. Crashing down on in.
Take time to realize,
That I am on your side
Didn't I, Didn't I tell you.

But I can't spell it out for you,
No it's never gonna be that simple
No I cant spell it out for you

C: If you just realize what I just realized,
Then we'd be perfect for each other
and will never find another
Just realized what I just realized
we'd never have to wonder if
we missed out on each other now.

V2: Take time to realize
Oh-oh I'm on your side
didn't I, didn't I tell you.
Take time to realize
This all can pass you by.. Didn't I tell you

But I can't spell it out for you,
no its never gonna be that simple
no I can't spell it out for you.

C: If you just realized what I just realized
then we'd be perfect for each other
then we'd never find another
Just realized what I just realized
we'd never have to wonder if
we missed out on each other now.

V3: It's not always the same
no it's never the same
if you don't feel it to.
If you meet me half way
If you would meet me half way.
It could be the same for you.

C: If you just realized what I just realized
then we'd be perfect for each other
then we'd never find another
Just realized what I just realized
we'd never have to wonder
Just realized what I just realized

OoOoOOo

missed out on each other now
missed out on each other now

Colbie Caillat - Midnight Bottle lyrics

Midnight bottle take me come with me my memories and everything come back to me
Midnight bottle make it real what feels like make believe so I can see a little more clearly
Like every single move you make kissing me so carefully on the corners of my dreaming eyes

I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna drink it down
A one way ticket takes me to the times we had before
When everything felt so right
If only for tonight I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna ease my pain
From all these feelings driving me insane
When I’m with you and everything’s all right if only for tonight
Got a midnight bottle drifting off into the candlelight where I can find you in your time
A midnight bottle I forgot how good it felt to be in a dream just like you had me
Cuz lately I’ve been stumbling feels like I’m recovering
But I think it’s only for tonight

I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna drink it down
A one way ticket takes me to the times we had before
When everything felt so right
If only for tonight I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna ease my pain
From all these feelings driving me insane
When I’m with you and everything’s all right if only for tonight
If only for tonight, if only for tonight, if only for tonight

I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna drink it down
A one way ticket takes me to the times we had before
When everything felt so right
If only for tonight I’ve got a midnight bottle gonna ease my pain
From all these feelings driving me insane
When I’m with you and everything’s all right if only for tonight
If only for tonight, if only for tonight, if only for tonight

Colbie Caillat - Feelings Show lyrics

You told me
You'd wait here patiently but
I wonder if he's kidding
Well maybe he could be serious now
Maybe not
Maybe not
Because'

Love is crazy
Pretty baby
Take it real slow
My feelings show
All you have to do
Is never ever let it go
My feelings show
And I want you to know

I'm sorry it's taking me so long
To find out what I'm feeling
I wonder if it will come to me
Maybe not
Maybe not
Because'

Love is crazy
Pretty baby
Take it real slow
My feelings show
All you have to do
Is never ever let it go
My feelings show
And I want you to know
My feelings show

I want you to know

What I'm trying to say is that
I'm feeling a change and
I'll let it take all over
If you need time away
I won't ask you to stay
But I don't want to lose you

Love is crazy
Pretty baby
Take it real slow
My feelings show
All you have to do
Is never ever let it go
My feelings show
Love is crazy
Pretty baby
Take it real slow
My feelings show
All you have to do
Is never ever let it go
My feelings show
And I want you to know
My feelings show

Never ever let it go
My feelings show
Never ever let it go
My feelings show
Never ever let it go
My feelings show

Colbie Caillat - One Fine Wire lyrics

I try so many times
but it's not taking me
and it seems so long ago
that I used to believe
and I'm so lost inside of my head
and crazy
but I cant get out of it
I'm just stumbling

And I'm juggling all the thoughts in my head
I'm juggling and my fears on fire
but I'm listening as it evolves in my head
I'm balancing on one fine wire

And I remember the time my balance was fine
and I was just walking on one fine wire
I remember the time my balance was fine
and I was just walking on one fine wire
but It's frayed at both the ends
and I'm slow unraveling

Life plays so many games inside of me
and I've had some distant cries, following
and their entwined between the night and sun beams
I wish I were free from this pain in me

And I'm juggling all the thoughts in my head
I'm juggling and my fears on fire
but I'm listening as it evolves in my head
I'm balancing on one fine wire

And I remember the time my balance was fine
and I was just walking on one fine wire
I remember the time my balance was fine
and I was just walking on one fine wire
but it's frayed at both the ends
and I'm slow unraveling

And I'm juggling all the thoughts in my head
I'm juggling and my fears on fire
but I'm listening as it evolves in my head
I'm balancing on one fine wire....

Colbie Caillat - The Little Things lyrics

V1: The little things, you do to me are
taking me over, i wanna show ya
everything inside of me
like a nervous heart that, is crazy beating
my feet are stuck here, against the pavement
i wanna break free, i wanna make it
closer to your eyes, get your attention
before you pass me by

C: So back up back up take another chance
Don’t you mess up mess up I don’t wanna lose you
Wake up wake up this aint just a thing that you
Give up give up don’t you say that I’d be
Better off better off, sleepin by myself and wonderin
If im better off better off, with out you boy

So don't just leave me hanging on

V2: And every time, you notice me by
holdin me closely, and sayin sweet things
i don't believe, that it could be
you speekin your mind and, sayin the real thing
my feet have broke free, and i am leavin
i'm not gonna stand here, feelin lonely but
i wont forget you, and i won't think this
was just a waste of time

C: So back up back up take another chance
Don’t you mess up mess up I don’t wanna lose you
Wake up wake up this aint just a thing that you
Give up give up don’t you say that I’d be
Better off better off, sleepin by myself and wonderin
If im better off better off, with out you boy

But don't just leave me hangin on.....

Colbie Caillat - Oxygen lyrics

I came apart inside a world made of angry people
i found a boy who had a dream
making everyone smile
He was sunshine
I fell over my feet
like bricks underwater

how am i supposed to tell you how i feel
i need oxygen
oh baby let me be your lady
i will make you happy
never gonna leave, never gonna leave
oh baby can i be your lady
i am going crazy for you

and so i found a state of mind
where i could be speechless
i had to try it for a while
to figure out this feeling
this felt so right
pull me upside down to a place
where you've been waiting

how am i supposed to tell you how i feel
i need oxygen
oh baby can i be your lady
i will make you happy
im never gonna leave,
never gonna leave
oh baby can i be your lady
i am going crazy for you

you dont wanna keep me waiting
staring at my fingers feeling like a fool

oh baby can i be your lady
i am going crazy
im never gonna leave,
never gonna leave
oh baby let me be your lady
i will make you happy, yeah-ohhhh

tell me what you want,
baby tell me what you need
anything i ask baby give it to me
baby give it to me, give it to me

give it to me, give it to me
baby give it to me give it to me

Colbie Caillat biography

A great song, says Colbie Caillat, should lift your heart, warm the soul and make you feel good. Taking her own sound advice, "Coco", the debut album by the 22 year-old Californian singer-songwriter is simply crammed full of them.

In an age when marketing has been elevated above content and so many songs are written and produced to a pre-ordained formula, Caillat comes as a welcome breath of fresh air. Records these days seem to fall into two categories. The vast majority tend to contain one or two good tracks which you download to your computer so that you never have to listen to the rest of the album again. Far more rare are those that demand to be listened to from start to finish, with every song in perfect symmetry. Think of the kind of vintage, organically-crafted albums that Carole King or Joni Mitchell used to make. Thankfully, it's a tradition that is being kept alive today by the likes of Norah Jones, Jack Johnson - and now Colbie Caillat.

"If you listen to an album like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, every song has its place," she says. "If you took one away you'd spoil the balance of the entire record. That's the kind of album I wanted to make. It wouldn’t feel right to have my name on a record that was just a few good tracks and then lots of filler."

The reference to Fleetwood Mac is revealing. Caillat grew up in the idyllic clime of Malibu, California with music all around her. Her father, Ken Caillat, co-produced Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" and "Tusk" albums and later ran his own record label. As a child she recalls the likes of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie being around. "Of course I've learned a lot from them. You'd be a fool not to," she says. Yet she is totally her own woman.

She began singing with serious intent at the age of 11 after hearing Lauryn Hill's version of Killing Me Softly. "I think her voice is absolutely beautiful and it made me want to start singing so I entered a talent show and of course I sang a Lauryn Hill song." As she grew older, however, her father offered one crucial piece of advice. It was all very well having a great voice, he pointed out, the people who command real respect in the music business are the songwriters. "I thought about that for a long time", she says.

In truth, it took some time coming - but when it did, the floodgates opened. "I needed to play an instrument to write songs and although I had piano lessons as a kid, it never went anywhere because I was never in the right state of mind to practice," she recalls. Surprisingly, it wasn't until she was 19 - little more than two years ago -that she eventually took up the acoustic guitar. "I wrote my fist song after my very first guitar lesson and then it just all flowed out," she recalls. "If something's biting me I hold it in because that's the kind of person I am. Then it comes out in songs. Things builds up inside of me and I'll write three songs in a weekend. It's a release. I don't choose what to write about. It's just there."

Along the way, she found two key collaborators in Mikal Blue, who hired her when she was 15 to sing some songs he'd written for a fashion show, and singer/songwriter Jason Reeves. Together, they helped to craft the songs on "Coco," which Blue also produced.

"The songs always start put with me," she explains of the collaborative process. "I'll be sitting around at home getting bored and something will come out. Then if I get stuck, I can take it to Mikal or Jason. Having people you trust to bounce ideas around keeps the creativity flowing."

Once she had a bunch of songs, she put a few of them on MySpace, more in hope than expectation. "Nothing much happened for a few months," she remembers. "Then I wrote this song called Bubbly and put it up there and it got this huge reaction. I mean thousands and thousands of hits every day."
In the end, she became the number one unsigned artist on MySpace for four successive months, garnering an almost unbelievable 10 million plays. Record labels started courting her and she signed with Universal Republic because, she says, they offered her total creative freedom. "The great thing about MySpace is that you can build up an army of fans and then when you go to a record company, there's no point in them trying to change what you do because it's already been tried and tested," she points out.

Quite what it is about Bubbly that struck such a chord, she's still not entirely sure. "I guess it's the simplicity of the lyrics and the melody," she says. "It's meant to make you feel good and everybody can relate to it." And "Coco" - the album is named after a childhood nickname which stuck - is full of similarly memorable songs imbued with an irresistible warmth which draw on a rich array of influences. "I love all kinds of music and I've been influenced by all of it," she says. "Classic rock like Fleetwood Mac and the Steve Miller Band. Original soul like Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. Lauryn Hill. Bob Marley and reggae, John Mayer. Anything that makes you feel good."

And from the sunny, upbeat promise of songs such as Bubbly and Oxygen to the gentle, semi-r & b groove of The Little Things and the lilting reggae of Tied Down, "Coco" is one of those classic albums that simply makes you feel glad to be alive. "You make me smile, please stay for a while," she sings on Bubbly. It really ought to be her mantra.

The Fray biography

It's been a whirlwind couple of years for The Fray, the Denver-based quartet whose earnest and melodic songs have been striking a huge chord with audiences. Formed in 2002 by Isaac Slade (vocals, piano) and Joe King (guitar, vocals), The Fray owe all of their early success to their organic, grassroots beginnings. In other words, they did it the old fashioned way: they earned it. It's a story you don't hear much anymore these days: local area gigs led to enthusiastic local press and local radio support.

Joe and Isaac were former schoolmates who bumped into each other unexpectedly, and – one thing led to another – they started writing songs together. The songs were catchy enough to attract two of Slade's former bandmates – drummer Ben Wysocki and guitarist Dave Welsh – who soon joined, completing the band's lineup.

The Fray garnered an early following through impressive area gigs and the support of local radio, which led to a listener-driven campaign to get the band a record contract. With strong word-of-mouth, the band won "Best New Band" honors from Denver's Westword magazine and got substantial airplay on two of Denver's top rock stations - the demo version of "Over My Head (Cable Car)" became KTCL's top 30 most played song of 2004 in just 4 months. And the listener campaign worked: the band signed to Epic Records in 2004. Fittingly, instead of closing the deal in an office or hotel room, they signed on the dotted line onstage at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado.

The group's organic rise to fame is key to their long range plans: "I think it's vital to the longevity of a band," Joe King says. "Of course Denver is where it all started, but word spread across the country via the internet even before radio stations were playing us. I remember on our first headlining tour, we would play cities where we weren't on the radio at all, and the venue would be full of people singing our lyrics." He adds, "Some people think we came out of nowhere quickly, but we had been working hard for four years before the mainstream public had heard about us."

Dave Welsh adds, "The grassroots is where music lives and breathes, where it finds its energy and its passion. Music can still exist when it becomes mainstream, but only if it has firm roots with the fans at home. I think you become a musician at home, and simply refine that skill on the road as a touring, major label band."

The first single from How To Save A Life, "Over My Head (Cable Car)" climbed into the top 10 on the Billboard singles chart, has been certified platinum, and was streamed more than a million times on MySpace in just one month. Indeed, MySpace has been good the to the band: they've been streamed over 16 million times, they have had more than 5 million views and close to 300,000 friends on the networking site. The Fray doesn't fit easily into any niche, and they don't need to: word of mouth (or, word of digital mouth) has been good enough. The songs stand on their own, no clever marketing or catering to genres necessary.

"Over My Head (Cable Car)" was inspired by Isaac Slade's temporary estrangement from his brother: "It is about a fight I got in with my brother, Caleb. After he graduated high school, we drifted apart and really hadn't spoken in a long time. One day we both realized that we needed to fight it out. We'd been friends for twenty years. That's a long time when you're only 23 years old. We fought it out, and he's one of my best friends today."

The title track, "How To Save A Life," was inspired by Slade's experience as a mentor to a crack addicted teen. "I was a sheltered suburban kid when I met this guy. He was a recovering addict, coming out of a really tough teenage life. Thankfully, he was on his way out of that life, so he was able to really look back with some objectivity. The song is more of a memoir about his slow motion descent and all the relationships he lost along the way." Destined to be one of the band's greatest hits, Slade isn't worried about getting tired of performing the song: "It is the easiest one for me to sing every night. I constantly get emails from people who relate to it."

The song has resonated with fans in some truly moving ways, which is humbling to the author: "Some people actually formed a non-profit organization called Save A Life. They lost their son to a tragic car accident and apparently ‘How To Save A Life' was the last song he downloaded. Another girl lost her mother to suicide. She wrote me and said it helped her deal with her mom's death."

The band recently saw footage of two high school kids performing the song at a talent show, which was somewhat mindblowing for Joe King, and provided him with something of a "full circle" moment. "Something so simple as two high school students playing our song at a talent show doesn't seem like it would be a huge moment, but it was. I'm proud of it because I relate to it so closely. That was me eight years ago, learning my favorite songs, from my favorite artists, and playing the songs that moved me. It just hit me that someone was now doing the exact same thing as I was but with my music." It was a "full circle" moment for his bandmates as well: Slade and Wysocki first performed together at talent show years ago.

It turns out that The Fray's music has resonated with lots of people: they are one of the most licensed bands of 2006, with their music being featured on Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, What About Brian, NCIS, One Tree Hill and Bones as well as in HBO's summer promos. Joe King: "I would say my favorite so far would be the recent HBO spot and the Grey's Anatomy spot, both using ‘How To Save A Life.' I remember last year seeing the Aqualung HBO spot and was shocked and almost jealous by how good it was. I called our managers and asked if we could get a spot like that, and I remember him saying, 'That's a tough one.' When I watched our HBO spot I didn't move, I don't even remember breathing because I had the chills."

As a result of all of this, How To Save A Life is quickly approaching platinum status, and the band has gone from playing small club gigs and opening slots to headlining larger venues, including a "hometown" gig at legendary Denver venue Red Rocks, which was famously host to U2 (two tracks of their classic live EP Under A Blood Red Sky was recorded there; Incubus and Dave Matthews Band are among the other artists to release live recording from the fabled venue). Ben Wysocki comments, "When you're the opener, you have 30 minutes, maybe 45, to prove yourself... and in a way, it is hard to settle in. When you're headlining, you can take a little more ownership of the crowd, they're yours for an hour and a half or so and you gotta treat them right, take care of them, be responsible with them, do the best you can to entertain them. There is pressure either way, but definitely more satisfaction in a headlining show." With songs this strong, The Fray should get used to headlining.

If you haven't caught their shows yet, you can get a taste on their recently released iTunes exclusive live "bootleg," Live At The Electric Factory, released July 18 (iTunes has also been good to The Fray: their album has been in the iTunes top 10 for six months straight, a feat not accomplished by many other acts). Of course, the live release is something of a tease: once you hear it, you'll no doubt want to catch them in person. Wysocki offers their plans for the rest of 2006: "We're taking August off. Then, we're going to travel the globe in September, tour the U.S. again later in the fall, play some random radio shows in December."

And in 2007? The Fray will return overseas early in the year, heading to Australia (where "Over My Head (Cable Car)" has just hit #1 on the national radio charts), New Zealand, Japan and Germany for the first time. They will embark on a huge US summer tour and hit the studio to work on the follow-up to How To Save A Life, a great first chapter in the band's career. But, to be sure, it is the first chapter in the story of a band that promises to be around for a long, long time.

The Fray - Unsaid lyrics

Not that you're the one
Not to say I'm right
Not to say today
And not to say a thing tonight

But suffice it to say
We're leaving things unsaid
We sing ourselves to sleep
Watching the day lie down instead

And we are leaving some things unsaid
And we are breathing deeper instead

We're both pretty sure
Neither one can tell
We seem difficult
What we got is hard as hell

A hundred thousand words could not quite explain
So I walk you to your car And we can talk it out in the rain

And we are leaving some things unsaid
And we are breathing deeper instead
And we are leaving some things unsaid

I can sing myself to sleep
No more

Not that you're the one
Not to say I'm right
Not to say today
And not to say a thing tonight

The Fray - Oceans Away lyrics

Figure since I'm so far gone, oceans away, I can lay my sabre down today. I miss the words I love the words, you did not say. I miss the kiss you never, never gave away.
There goes the sun, oceans away
And days die young when you're gone and you're gone
There goes the sun, oceans away
And leaves the day for someone else
Honestly I thought that we could make it all the way, Barefoot on beaches dancing against the gray. But stone by stone the castle crumbled to the ground, I stood and stared as you started to fall into the waves.
There goes the sun, oceans away
And days die young when you're gone and you're gone
There goes the sun, oceans away
And leaves the day for someone else
Here's to the man of your dreams. I take it all in a box and make my way down to the shore, Throw it in and begin to leave it to the waves

The Fray - City Hall lyrics

The city hall in my mind, met last night
Rumors of reelection started to fly

It's my funeral today, my funeral today
I laid it down Underneath the sound

It's my principle concern, my principle concern is what you say
But I wanted it this way.
Cause I'm throwin down without a fight

You're more than welcome to look around
Consult your checklist go underground
I'll claim a stake here inside the frame
But I'm going under another way

I won't return after today
So I'm at liberty to say what's on my mind
And it some I like

You can't watch me anymore, you can't make me like before
When I was yours when all I wanted was the door
So I'm throwin down without a fight

You're more than welcome to look around
Consult your checklist go underground
I'll claim a stake here inside the frame
But I'm going under another way

Decision on the dock head
Make up your mind and if you get consensus
Drop me a line

The city hall in my mind, got together last night
Rumors of reelection started to fly

The Fray - Without Reason lyrics

I do it on a whim, its rhyme without reason whatever comes to mind I'll pull it from thin air. I've learned to improvise to fill my time I don't want to live this life, no I don't want to live this life without reason.
Never want to live without it,
never want to live,
I don't want to live without reason.
I do it on a whim, with no motivation following this line and I don't know why, but I've learned to capture time it's my redirection I don't want to live this life, no I don't want to live this life without reason
Never want to live without it,
never want to live,
I don't want to live without reason.
You want to work to spend to show.
You want to talk to smile to feel.
You want to run to thirst to drink.
You want to love to know it's real.
Never want to live without, never want to live, I don't want to live without reason

The Fray - Vienna lyrics

The day's last one-way ticket train pulls in We smile for the casual closure capturing. There goes the downpourHere goes my fare thee well
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
‘Cause I'm already gone
Only so many words that we could say Spoken upon long-distance melody. This is my hello This is my goodness
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
‘Cause I'm already gone
Maybe in five or ten yours and mine we'll meet again Straighten this whole thing out. Maybe then honesty Need not be feared as a friend nor an enemy But this is the distance And this is my gameface
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
There's really no way to reach me
‘Cause I'm already gone
So this is your maverick And this is Vienna

The Fray - Some Trust lyrics

So you fake you're full and you feel tomorrow Coming and you gotta do what you can do to get Away with everything you want and still get what you need. So you're slowing down cause you've done it before, You look at the floor and you wonder when it's gonna Come on up over your head so you can get some rest.
Some trust in love and some trust in hatred
Some trust in fear and some in violence
Some trust in faith and some trust in fortune
Some trust God and some just get away.
Swear to God I'm going to get it right Stay down tied until I get my fill. So I take it all but it's falling through Done it before so maybe a little bit More will make it easier to get on through the door.
Some trust in pain and some trust in pleasure
Some trust in union, some in innocence
Some trust in fear and some trust in fortune
Some trust in everyone and some just get away.
Call it security, Call it your purity, Call it the words we pray, Call it the sins we say, You never wanted this
Some trust in God and some trust in country
Some trust in love and some in violence
Some trust in diamonds, some trust in devils
Some trust fear and some just get away

The Fray - Together lyrics

As the spring in its bloom, the summer stars and the moon, Come and dance with me my love and we will be one.
We go together,
I promise forever, everyday together,
I live with you.
As the leafs and the trees, the oceans celebrate you and me. We will live to see many days, and we will dream, we'll dream.
We go together, I promise forever, everyday together, I live with you
